KARACHI: Five killed in accidents

KARACHI, Aug 1: Five persons died in separate accidents in different parts of the city on Sunday. A young man died and his associate was injured when a speeding truck hit their pickup near Gulshan-i-Maymar on Sunday morning.

Police said that Riasat and Arshad were coming from Sabzi Mandi when their pickup was hit by a speeding truck. Riasat died in the accident while Arshad was seriously wounded. Both the injured and the deceased were later shifted to hospital. However, the errant truck escaped.

In SITE, a 12-year-old conductor of a passenger coach got crushed under wheels of the same coach. Police said that Khan Sahib, the conductor of Abdullah Coach, slipped from the speeding coach and got crushed under its wheels. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

In Liaquatabad, a pickup truck knocked down a young pedestrian on S.M. Taufiq Road. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

In Mohammadi Colony, Gul Amin, 40, was hit and wounded by a speeding vehicle. The victim was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment.

In Defence area, a cyclist died when a live electric wire fell on him near Submarine Chowrangi. Police said that the 17-year-old cyclist could not be identified. His body was shifted to JPMC.

ARRESTED: Police arrested two suspects and recovered pistols from their possession in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday. A police party of the Gulshan police station conducting snap checking near Disco Bakery arrested Rashid and Abdul Rehman and recovered two TT pistols from their possession.
