BAHAWALPUR, July 30: The local police on Friday reportedly arrested three activists of Jaish-i-Muhammad, the outlawed jihadi outfit. It was learnt that their arrests were made during a raid on a house in Javed Colony near the General Bus Stand.

The arrested men were identified as Mehdi Kanwal alias Shakir, Sakhawat Hussain and Asad Hussain.

When contacted, the Cantonment police refused to confirm the arrest of suspects. It is learnt that their arrests have been made on the suspicion of their activities by some intelligence agency.

PROTEST DAY: On the call of MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad, a protest day against the execution of two Pakistani nationals by a terrorist group in Iraq was observed here on Friday.

In this connection, a protest rally was brought out after Friday congregation from Jamia Masjid Alsadiq. The rally, led by local MMA leaders, reached Chowk Bazaar.

There the leaders in their speeches condemned the murder of two Pakistanis and the government for its failure to save them. The leaders warned that the opposition parties would come on the roads if the government sent troops to Iraq. Later, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
