Banks can finance computers

Published July 31, 2004

KARACHI, July 30: The State Bank has clarified that the personal computers and computer accessories can be financed by the banks and development finance institutions like other consumer durables.

According to a BPD circular letter No 27, dated July 29 and issued to the press here on Friday, the central bank had received some complaints that computers and allied accessories were not covered under consumer durable financing.

The SBP stated that the personal loans might be extended for purchase of personal computers just like other consumer goods, as stipulated under R-25 of the Prudential Regulations for Consumer Financing.

Banks/DFIs are, therefore advised to direct their branches that they may extend personal loans for purchase of personal computers/accessories thereof under the Prudential Regulations. -APP
