KASUR, July 29: The Anjuman-i-Kashtkaran Kasur took out a protest procession against the alleged rude behaviour of Wapda XEN (rural) Abdul Razzaq and other officials here on Thursday.
The procession, led by president Chaudhry Ahmad Ali Tolo, started from the shrine of Hazrat Shah Kamal Chishti and ended outside the office of the district Nazim. Speaking to the participants, Mr Tolo alleged that many a time the Wapda officials entered the houses of farmers for checking and misbehaved with their women.
He demanded immediate transfer of the XEN. He also complained of inflated billing. District Nazim Rana Imtiaz Ahmad Khan assured the protesters that their demands would be met.
ROBBERIES: Dacoits took away a van, a motorcycle, cash and gold ornaments in three strikes. Reports said Muhammad Anwar was going from Lahore to Kot Radha Kishan on his van (GAD-7097) laden with vegetables. Near Resa Bhail village, three armed men intercepted him and took away Rs2,800 and the vehicle.
In the second incident, Muhammad Mushtaq and his wife Shazia were going to Chheena village by motorcycle. Near Bawaywala village, three robbers intercepted them, made off with jewellery, cash worth Rs5,000 and the bike.
Four gangsters entered the house of Tariq Bashir at Raja Jang, held the family members hostage, looted Rs40,000, jewellery worth Rs100,000 and prize bonds to the tune of Rs40,000.
WATER THIEVES: At least 75 farmers were booked for stealing canal water here on Thursday in Mustafabad. A team of the irrigation department, headed by the SDO (canal) conducted raids at Gadokey, Sarhali Khurd and Dafto villages. The raiding team caught 32 farmers red-handed in Gadokey, 34 in Sarhali Khurd and nine in Dafto while stealing water.
