MIAMI, July 29: Controversial US filmmaker Michael Moore plans to take his cameras to Florida on election day (Nov 2), amid continuing controversy over voting machines in the state known for its 2000 electoral debacle , the Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported.

"I am committed. I am coming to Florida," the South Florida daily quoted Moore as saying. "Together, we will guarantee to every Floridian that their vote will be counted this year."

Many Democrats claim the Florida ballots in the last presidential election were not properly counted and that George Bush stole the vote. After five weeks of recounts and legal wrangling, the US Supreme Court declared Mr Bush the winner thanks to a 537-vote advantage over his rival in the southeastern state.

Moore's promise comes amid continuing controversy over the voting system in Florida and concerns over the accuracy of touch-screen voting machines, which replaced the punch-card ballots that became notorious in 2000.

Miami officials have admitted that the electronic records of a 2002 Democratic primary for gubernatorial elections were lost because of an electronic glitch. The new machines do not produce a printed record of the voting. -AFP
