SRINAGAR, July 28: Freedom fighters on Wednesday stormed a security forces camp in the heart of held Kashmir's tourism centre, killing five security personnel. Two militants died in the gunbattle.

Separately, four scrap sellers were killed in an explosion when they accidentally blew up ordnance while dismantling metal junk in Pathankot, police said.

Two militants attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp, which is based in a hotel in the middle of the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Police said two security officers were injured in the attack, but the hundreds of tourists in hotels and houseboats in the area were safe.

A group called Al-Mansoorian claimed responsibility for the attack, which police said was the first in 15 years at the camp. Police in Jammu said victims in the junkyard blast appeared to have picked up discarded Indian army munitions from Kashmir's borders and were extracting their metal parts when the explosion occurred. - Agencies
