VEHARI, July 21: A new 132-KV transformer, which was installed late Tuesday night at the local grid station, started functioning on Wednesday.

Grid station sub-station officer (SSO) Nazar Husain told this correspondent that all the load had been shifted to the transformer, which was working smoothly. So were the 14 feeders in the rural and urban areas of the district, he said.

However, he said some old cables at the grid station would be replaced and repair of the control room building would be completed within next few days. The SSO said the new wire had been installed at Machiwal area because the previous one had been stolen few days ago. The power supply had been restored to the area, he added.

Responding to a complaint that power supply suspended three to four times a day in various parts of the tehsil, especially its rural areas, he said the Mepco circle operation was responsible for this. Meanwhile, the inquiry into the incident was yet to be completed by the team formed for the purpose.

KILLED: Two cousins were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a train at an unmanned level-crossing here on Wednesday. As per reports, Kamran (25) and Abid Jabbar (18) of Anwarabad were going to Danywal by their motorcycle when they were crushed by Karachi-bound Farid Express. They tried to hurriedly cross the level crossing. Danywal police are going into the matter.
