KARACHI, Oct 27: There is no scanning machine at the International Mail Office (IMO) of the Pakistan Post Office to check powder substances in mails, a senior IMO official confirmed here on Saturday.

“We have provided disposable gloves and masks to the employees exposed to mails, but there is no scanning machine,” said the official.

The IMO, situated at Shahre-Faisal, handles all incoming and outgoing international mails, while big parcels are handled at the Foreign Post office of the PPO located at I.I. Chundrigar Road.

“At the Foreign Post Office we have a scanning machine that can detect powdered substance like drugs or other powdered material,” said Naseer Ahmed Khan, controller Foreign Post Karachi.

He said that the employees had also been given disposable gloves and masks so that they should not get exposed to any anthrax-related substance.
