LARKANA, July 13: Farmers held a demonstration on the 57 Bridge near Bakrani on Tuesday to protest against non-availability of water in waterways originating from the Dadu Canal.

Sohail Anwar Siyal, Mohammad Aalam Jatoi and Tariq Siyal led the protestors who also staged a sit-in near Faridabad. They said the Bakrani Shakh, Gulshan Shakh, Qutab Minor, Jatoi Minor and some other distributaries of the canal were without water.

The protesters said paddy saplings were drying due to shortage of water. Criticizing irrigation officials for the situation, they demanded early release of water to their lands.

ROBBED: Armed robbers on Tuesday deprived Sobdar Khoso, a munshi at the Tawakal Rice Mills, of Rs150,000 while he was going to deposit the amount in a bank. In another incident, five men barged into the house of Awais Shaikh in Yousuf Colony and looted gold ornaments and other household articles after holding family members hostage at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, Sindh-Balochistan Rice Millers and Traders Association president Gada Hussain Mahisar on Tuesday met the DPO in the wake of increase in crimes in the district. Mr Mahisar told this correspondent that he conveyed his concern to the DPO on the deteriorating law and order situation.
