Kashmir Martyrs Day today

Published July 13, 2004

MIRPUR, July 12: Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and rest of the world will observe the 73rd Kashmir Martyrs Day on Tuesday with the renewal of the pledge to continue their struggle for their right to self-determination and for the liberation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

On this day in 1931 Dogra troops had shot dead 22 Kashmiris in front of the central jail, Srinagar. A large number of people had gathered outside the jail protesting against the trial of a young man for treason inside the prison.

The day will be observed by taking out processions, holding of seminars, rallies, demonstrations and fateha khawani on both sides of the LoC. -APP
