ISLAMABAD, July 8: A Supreme Court lawyer has lodged a complaint with the Cantonment police station stating that two unidentified persons tried to kill his wife, police said.

The lawyer, Ikram Chaudhry, is pleading the case of six military officials being detained by the army in connection with an attempt on the life of President General Pervez Musharraf.

Ikram Chaudhry alleged that the accused belonged to some agency which was harassing him and his family to withdraw from pleading the high-profile cases. Mr Chaudhry told Dawn that on Tuesday his wife, Tahira Ikram, professor at Waqarun Nisa College, was on her way to home when two unidentified persons blocked her way by slipping their heavy bike in front of the car near Dany's High School on Murree Road.

After dropping their bike, one of the accused pointed his pistol at her to shoot her. However, Mr Chaudhry said, his wife was lucky enough to escape unhurt, as by then another vehicle had arrived on the scene. The accused ran away.

Mr Chaudhry claimed that the attempt on the life of his wife was typical of the way the agencies launched their secret operations. Meanwhile, auto-thieves struck at three different places in Islamabad on Thursday and made off with three vehicles, police said.
