BAHAWALPUR, July 6: The epidemic of diarrhoea in Fort Abbas in Bahawalnagar district has not yet been controlled as another 30 people were admitted to the Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

The doctors claimed that there was no serious patient. Bahawalnagar district Nazim Chaudhry Ali Akbar Waince said at a meeting on Tuesday all available resources would be used to control the disease.

He said special teams have been called in from Bahawalpur, Lahore, Islamabad to overcome the situation. He said a six-bed temporary ward has been set up in THQ hospital to cope with the situation.

The use of ice balls in the area has been banned and the underground water supply pipelines were being dug to ascertain the cause of contamination of drinking water.

COURTS ARREST: The husband of tehsil lady councillor Ms Shagufta Arshad, a victim of acid attack, courted arrest here on Tuesday, the DPO said. The councillors had held a rally on Monday and demanded his arrest.

Arshad was absconding for the last week after throwing acid on his wife and children. Shagufta sustained severe burns and was stated to be in a critical condition at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Her three sons and a daughter also received burns. Arshad told the investigation officer that after her election as lady councillor, she had allegedly developed illicit relations with one of his acquaintances.
