'Govt depts to be networked'

PESHAWAR, July 2: The government is set to computerize and inter-link all government departments from the district to the provincial levels to ensure easy access to information besides providing efficient online service to the common man , says NWFP Minister for Information Technology Hussain Ahmad Kanju.

An official handout quoted the minister as saying that record of the land and revenue, zakat and ushr, motor vehicles, litigation management and case tracking and teaching hospitals was initially being computerised, adding that pilot projects would soon be initiated.

He was speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony at a local college. The government was assigning a high priority to the development of information technology sector in the province, he said.

Miss Noorus Saba of the college received the first prize while Asif Suhail Adil and Zakriya Khan got second and third prizes respectively. Mr Kanju while prioritizing steps of the provincial government in science and technology sector said that the government was actively considering to exploit the untapped precious mineral deposits through Geographical Information System in the province particularly in the northern districts.
