PESHAWAR, June 28: About 500 people, including women and children, were examined at a free medical camp organized by the Duaa Welfare Hospital and Thalassemia Centre at Garhi Baloch village on Monday.
The patients, who were examined by specialist doctors, were also given free medicines, says a press release. Speaking on the occasion, centre's chairman Shakil Khan said his hospital was committed to holding free medical camps in the villages where medical facilities were non-existent.
He also thanked Dr Amjad Ali, Dr Mohammad Arif, Dr Sajidullah, Dr Sumaira Afridi and Dr Shabana Naureen for attending the free medical camp. On the occasion, doctors gave important tips to the people on health and hygiene. They asked pregnant women to remain in touch with doctors in order to avoid complications at the time of delivery.
The expecting mothers were also informed about the benefits of breastfeeding and were told that formula milk was not good for the health of the baby. The doctors said that babies who were fed by their mothers had a high degree of immunity against several diseases.
TRAINING: The Institute of Education and Research of Peshawar University has started an education training programme for Afghan education officers here on Monday.
The three-week program has been jointly organised by the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and Swedish Committee for Afghanistan where eight professors of the IER would impart training to 72 officers of the Afghan education department.
The training programme would continue till July 17 after which the trained teachers would continue training programme for other education officers back home in Afghanistan.
Vice-Chancellor University of Peshawar Mumtaz Gull said on the occasion that such kind of activities would further enhance the friendship bond and would help the neighbouring country in elimination of illiteracy. It is a social event and we are committed with the Afghan government in eradicating the menace of illiteracy, he added.
