ISLAMABAD, June 20: Chile is interested in strengthening relations with Pakistan, specially in the fields of commerce, trade and tourism. This was said by the director-general of consul affairs in the foreign office of Chile, Recardo Fiegelist, who is on a visit to Islamabad.

Mr Fiegelist called on Alamgir Badr, director-general Americas in the Foreign Office in Islamabad, and also held a meeting with Abdul Latif, deputy chief of protocol in the ministry.

In the meeting, Mr Fiegelist took up issues of bilateral interests. The visit by Mr Fiegelist is an important step as it has been after a very long time that any high official of the government of Chile has visited Pakistan.

During his stay he also held a series of meetings with Dr Maria Catalina Alliende, the honorary consul of Chile in Pakistan, to update the consul regarding the procedural requirements. Dr Maria will be able to provide consular services to Chilean nationals living in Pakistan as well as Pakistanis living in Chile.
