PESHAWAR, June 17: Law-enforcement agencies have arrested in Mohmand region three people suspected to be involved in the recent spate of terrorism in Karachi, sources told Dawn here on Wednesday.

The three were arrested in the remote Mohmand tribal area on information given by their accomplices, who had been arrested by law-enforcement agencies in Karachi on Sunday, the sources said.

Commander Abdur Rauf, Commander Usmani and Mulla Aakif were arrested from their hideouts in Mohmand Agency, the sources said but refused to reveal the exact location of their arrests.

A team of interrogators that had extracted information from the accomplices in Karachi had informed the intelligence operators in the NWFP about the hideouts of the militants in the Mohmand Agency, they said.

A team of law-enforcement and security agencies went to the area and arrested the suspects without facing any resistance from them. Later on, the suspects were handed over to a secret agency in Peshawar, the sources said.

The agencies also recovered sophisticated weapons, cellular phones, passports and national identity cards from the suspects' possession, the sources said. The sources said that the suspects would be shifted in the next few days to Islamabad and then to Karachi for investigation. "The suspects do not hail from the NWFP," they added.
