Governor, CM deplore killing

KARACHI, June 17: Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan, Acting Governor Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim have condemned the killing of PPP leader Munawwar Hussain Suhrawardy in an act of terrorism on Thursday.

In a statement Dr Ibad and Mr Shah expressed sorrow and grief over the killing and appreciated political and social services rendered by the deceased. Mr Shah has directed concerned officials to hold an investigation into the incident and take immediate steps to bring those responsible to justice.

Dr Arbab Rahim vehemently condemned the killing, describing it an act of terrorism. "We all will have to fight against such cowardly incidents collectively," he said in a statement while expressing his profound grief and sorrow over the killing.

He said that the murder of Mr Suhrawardy was a part of a conspiracy of international terrorism having objective of creating lawlessness in Sindh and particularly in Karachi.

He appealed to Karachiites to be aware of the background scenario, exercise patience and remain peaceful. City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, condemned the PPP leader's killing as an act of terrorism.

In his condolence message, the nazim said that the city was being pushed into a state of lawlessness under a well-organized conspiracy aimed at destabilising the country in general and Karachi in particular. He demanded immediate arrest of culprits.

Former adviser to the CM on Information, Salahuddin Haider condemned Mr Suhrawardy's killing in strongest terms and said it was a grim tragedy and a direct attack on civilized society. -PPI
