PESHAWAR, June 16: Wapda paid the last instalment of the net profit on hydel-power generation to the NWFP government, said a handout here on Tuesday.

Wapda chairman Tariq Hameed handed over the last instalment worth Rs1.5 billion to NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani here at a meeting, which was also attended by senior provincial minister Sirajul Haq and other officials.

The chief minister assured that the provincial government would pay all the outstanding dues of Wapda this month. He said that the cooperation between Wapda and the provincial government would continue.

He said that Wapda should resolve problems relating to inflated bills, load-shedding and replacement of old metres immediately and if these problems were not taken seriously it could create problems for the government.

Mr Durrani directed the chief secretary to remove hurdles in the implementation of Wapda projects in Kohistan district and facilitate land acquisition there.

He said the provincial government wanted to accelerate construction work on first lift canal for which the federal government had also allocated funds. The Wapda chairman informed the meeting that transformers in the NWFP had been changed and seven new grid stations had been established. Besides, construction work on various Wapda projects was in full swing.
