KARACHI, June 16: The Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has announced that black sheep, and inefficient and irresponsible officials in the police department will be removed, while hardworking, capable and honest officials will be encouraged.

"Police requirements will be met so that crimes can be eliminated from society and law and order can be maintained," he said, while chairing a meeting held on Wednesday at Chief Minister House to review the needs and requirements of police.

Arbab said Sindh had enough police force, but what was required was an improvement in their performance, provision of weapons, vehicles, modern technology and making them active and functional so that police performance could be visibly seen in every district.

The required number of vehicles, fuel, weapons and equipment to police would be made available in all districts, while arrangements would also be made for their accommodation.

He noted it was imperative to give due importance to their command and keep their morale high. The chief minister assured that in case of differences found between salaries police of Sindh and Punjab, efforts would be made to undo the same.

Announcing that corruption and plundering would be rooted out from police department, Arbab made it clear that basic responsibility of police was to establish law and order, and protect the life and property of people.

Earlier, IGP Sindh briefed the chief minister about the needs and problems of police department. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Mutawakkil Kazi, Additional Chief Secretary Home Syed Anwar Hyder and other officials.

IRRIGATION: Acting upon the chief minister's directives, the provincial irrigation and power department has taken serious notice of its field staff's performance and asked them ensure their availability at the place of duty.

The staff on duty at canals have been asked to remain available round-the-clock and resolve the genuine problems of Abadgars (growers). They have further been directed to ensure an equitable distribution of water in their jurisdiction and take stern action against those found tampering with water outlets. -APP/PPI
