ISLAMABAD, June 15: Opposition members in the Senate on Tuesday demanded reconstitution of the standing committees and said chairmanship of some committees should be given to them.

At the outset of the session, the opposition members belonging to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) asked the Senate chairman, Mohammadmian soomro, to allow them to speak on a point of order.

MMA senators Dr Mohammad Ismail Buledi and Liaquat Ali Bangalzai and PPP Senator Farooq H. Naek while speaking on points of order criticized the Senate chairman for not giving proper representation to the opposition members in the standing committees. They said in the past, it had been a tradition that opposition members were made chairmen of various committees.
