KARACHI, June 10: Water supply to various city areas in former districts East and South will be badly affected on Friday in the wake frequent power failures which occurred at the Dhabeji pumping station on Thursday.

A KWSB spokesman said that pumping of water from Dhabeji remained suspended between 5.15am and 2pm on Thursday owing to recurring power failures at the pumping station.

He said since frequent powers at the pumping station resulted in short supply of water to the tune of 50 million gallons on Thursday, water supply to all those localities getting supply from Pipri filter plant will be affected on Friday.

The localities to be affected on Friday include Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, DHA, Manzoor Colony, Akhtar Colony, Hazara Colony, National Refinery and its adjoining areas.

Water supply to other parts of the city was also affected on Thursday when a substantial quantity of water entered the K-2 pump-house when its two air-valves developed leakages.

About the leaking valves, the KWSB spokesman said as soon as the KWSB officials came to know about this, they drained out water from the pump-house with the help of heavy pumping machines and the entire operation was accomplished within two hours.

Pumping of water from the K-2 pump-house to the city was restored immediately after draining out water from the pump-house and water supply to localities hooked to it has been normalized, he added.
