TOBA TEK SINGH, June 3: A man was shot dead by alleged car thieves when they opened fire on an anti-car lifting squad of Gulberg police, Lahore, on Wednesday night.

Reports said a squad raided the outhouse of Chaudhry Nauman Azhar, relative of a minister, who was identified as a thief by an employee of a showroom the team had visited first for the recovery of a car.

Led by ASIs Muhammad Shafi and Muhammad Asghar, the squad reached a showroom on the Kamalia Road where Ashraf Masih, an employee, pointed out that he would get the vehicle recovered from Chak 325-JB, Dullam.

When the team raided the hideout at the village, unidentified men started indiscriminate fire as a result of which the driver hired by the police was seriously injured. He died at a hospital.

ARRESTS: Nawan Lahore police raided on Thursday Chak 417-JB and arrested three of the eight men, who deprived a farmer of his cattle and raped his servant's wife. Reports said eight dacoits took away Fayyaz Ahmad Gujjar's dozen cattle from his outhouse and gang-raped the wife of his servant a few days ago.

The farmer traced the dacoits and reached police, who conducted a raid and arrested three of the gangsters. The police have also recovered the cattle and were raiding for the arrest of their accomplices.

VEHICLES TAKEN AWAY: Robbers took away on Wednesday night two vehicles in various parts of the district. Two armed men drove away with a rickshaw of Saeed, a resident of Gojra, when he was carrying passengers to Chak 411-JB. Another rickshaw was driven away by two men in Rajana area.
