BAHAWALPUR, May 31: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a financial grant of Rs95 million for Islamia University, Bahawalpur.

According to Islamia University's vice-chancellor Prof Dr Munir Akhtar, the sanctioned grant included Rs27 million for information technology, Rs25 million for eight research laboratories and Rs31 million for extension programme.

He said that university's three campuses would be inter-linked through electronic system and all departments and their teachers would be provided the internet facility. The VC said that an agreement of Rs15 million had been signed with a company for inter-linking three campuses.

DEMO: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Monday organized a protest demonstration against the assassination of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai in Karachi. The protest rally was taken out from Jamia Masjid Al-Sadiq and ended at Chowk Shahzadi.

A large number of office-bearers and activists of component parties of the MMA took part in the demonstration. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the killers of Mufti Shamzai.

STRIKE: The All Pakistan Clerk Association will go on a three-day strike from June 3 to press for the acceptance of their demand regarding increase in their pay scales.

The APC said here on Monday that there would be a complete lock-up in government offices for three days. The next course of action would be announced after June 5 if the government did not accept the demands.
