KHAIRPUR, May 31: The embankment of the Rohri Canal at RD-79 has been declared dangerous as it can pose a threat to Luqman locality of the town in case of any eventuality.

This correspondent learnt on Monday that the irrigation department had deployed some people to keep a round-the-clock vigil at the site.

The embankment of the Rohri Canal developed a two to three feet wide breach near the Ghulam Hyder Phul villagem near Gambat, on Sunday night. The villagers plugged the breach on the self-help basis.

TWO DIE IN ACCIDENT: A mother and son were killed and another man injured when a trailer hit a horse cart on the National Highway near Ranipur on Sunday. As a result, Nasreen Shaikh, 30, and her son Sheeraz, 10, died on the spot.

Mohammad Ismail, the cart driver, was injured and admitted to the Ranipur hospital. The trailer driver managed to escape. The police impounded the vehicle.

DEMO: Activists of the Sindh Hari Committee staged a demonstration in Sami town Sobhodero taluka on the third consecutive day on Monday against a shortage of water in Kharkano wah, Teekano wah, Mehrab wah, Imam Shakh and Kharil Shakh. They said that they could not sow cotton crop due to the water shortage.
