WASHINGTON, May 27: The Pakistani community in the United States initiated step on Thursday towards forming Pakistan caucus on the Capitol Hill.
The Pakistani-American Liaison Center registered a political action committee with the Federal Election Commission in Washington to support and endorse public officials.
The Committee established by the PAL-C would be known as the PAL-C PAC. A political action committee works with the caucus to promote a country's interests in the US Congress and the Senate.
The caucus is formed and headed by US lawmakers but it receives support from the political action committee, which works as the caucus's link to the community it represents.
The most active political action committee on the Hill is that of Israel. India also has an active committee formed almost 10 years ago. The Washington-based Pakistani American Liaison Center is a community-oriented group dedicated to public education and organizing the community.
The idea to form the group was conceived by a group of Pakistani-Americans gathered in Washington from around the country on Feb 28, 2004.
