LAHORE, May 25: The Lahore High Court division bench hearing the writ petitions of PML-N leaders against their detention, sent petitions of 12 party activists to the home secretary for a decision within a week.
The petitions of MPA Dr Nazir Ahmad Mithu Dogar from Vehari and activists from Lahore Bodi Pehalwan, Naushad Ahmad and UC Naib Nazim Nazir Khan Swati were turned into presentations for the consideration of the home secretary.
The court also declared infructuous the writ petitions of MPAs Malik Yawar Zaman from Okra, Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad from Lahore, Rao Jahanzeb Khan from Sheikhupura and former MNA Inamullah Khan Niazi, which had borne fruit.
The Punjab government had released the legislators after withdrawing their detention orders under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. They were sent to jail to prevent them from leaving for Lahore airport to receive party president Shahbaz Sharif on April 11.
Their writ petitions were rendered infructuous after the court was informed by a provincial law officer that their detention orders had been withdrawn after their release.
REPORT SOUGHT: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a report from the federal government on causes of preventing a businessman, Mudassar Husain, from going abroad.
Mr Husain filed a writ petition submitting that he was not being allowed to proceed abroad as his name was put on the exit control list by the home department. He submitted that he was being victimized for being a member of the PML-N. He contended that he was suffering loss because of the home department's decision.
