HYDERABAD, May 25: The Sindh National Party has demanded registration of a murder case against the Sindh government, Wasa managing director , irrigation secretary and other officers concerned for supplying contaminated water to people of Hyderabad, Thatta, Dadu and Badin districts.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday, SNP president Ameer Bhambhro, Rasheed Magsi, Wahid Bux Sangrasi, Khan Dahri and Ashraf Noonari said that they would move the Sindh High Court if the case against the authorities was not registered.

They warned that protest demonstrations would be held throughout Sindh if supply of clean drinking water was not ensured in 48 hours. They said that due to inefficiency of the Sindh government, a large number of people had died and thousands of others had been hospitalized due to consumption of poisonous water.

The leaders demanded that the compensation amount for bereaved families should be increased from Rs200,000 to Rs500,000 and those who had fallen ill due to consumption of the contaminated water should be paid Rs50,000 each.

They warned that if a case registered against 80 workers for holding the demonstration was not withdrawn, the party would give a protest call at the provincial level and block national highways by staging sit-ins.

HCCI: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded that the federal finance minister should reduce the rate of income tax and corporate tax.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, HCCI president Emad Siddiqi proposed that the income tax exemption limit should be increased to Rs120,000 and the maximum ratio of income tax should be reduced from 35 per cent to 25 per cent.
