ISLAMABAD, May 20: Pakistan on Thursday lodged a strong protest with India over the callous and unwarranted killing of three Pakistani fishermen by the Indian navy. A statement released by the Foreign Office said; "A senior diplomat of the Indian High Commission at Islamabad was summoned to the Foreign Office today.

"He was asked to convey the protest of the Government of Pakistan at the senseless killing of the three fishermen by the Indian navy. It was pointed out to him that straying of fishermen into the territorial waters of the other country was a routine affair which, at worst, called for the arrest of the trespassing fishermen.

"He was reminded that despite frequent trespassing by Indian fishermen the Pakistan authorities never harmed their persons or property. "Apart from conducting an inquiry into the tragedy the Indian government has been asked to ensure non-recurrence of such incidents," the statement said. -APP
