KARACHI, May 19: An estimated 12,500 public schools, 92 colleges and over 45 healthcare units in Karachi require the urgent support of concerned citizens and philanthropists to function effectively at their optimum capacities.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan was addressing a ceremony held to formally inaugurate a crossing constructed by an industrial company at the Korangi Industrial and Trading Estate.

Referring to the plight of Karachiites in general due to poor civic facilities, he reiterated the need for collective efforts to address the same. Attributing the scenario mainly to unplanned expansion of the city and the constant population influx, the city nazim also mentioned water scarcity, poor sewerage and sanitation system besides the inadequate transport network as some of the basic problems of citizens.

Saying that Karachi had always been neglected the nazim added that the city government with its meager resources was unable to resolve all the problems. The ceremony was also attended by Nazim Korangi Town M Shahid and Nazim Landhi Town Zahid Hussain. -APP
