SUKKUR, May 17: The DPO has denied that a jirga was held in the Arab Shaikh village, Site police station jurisdiction, here to decide the matter of marriage of Samina Shaikh and Khadim Shaikh.

He, however, said that he would depute a senior taluka police officer to probe the matter and submit a report to him. The DPO, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, stated this before a Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court on Monday.

The SHC had issued notices to 13 persons, including the Sukkur DPO, to appear before the court on a petition filed by Shazia, wife of Ehsan Ali, following the holding of a jirga.

The petitioner had stated that the jirga had been held in violation of a Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, verdict banning holding of jirgas. The petitioner's counsel termed the DPO's statement baseless and misleading.

The court ordered the counsel to submit his written objections in this regard before the court on May 24.

MISSING: Two medical representatives, Hafiz Mohammad Ismail and Naveed Shahzad Maseeh, who left for Jacobabad on Sunday have not returned their homes, family sources said here on Monday.

The families feared that Ismail and Shahzad might have been kidnapped by bandits along with their car. The matter has been reported to Jacobabad DPO Din Mohammad Baloch.
