LAHORE, May 10: The provincial government has deployed police at all entry points of the city to stop opposition legislators and check transportation of banners and flags for welcoming PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif.
One such incident surfaced when a PPP MPA from Shahdara, Samiullah Khan, was pulled off at a Saggian Bridge police picket on Monday and was told to go back, as the authorities concerned didn't want to see him here for few days. However, he was allowed to enter the city after an altercation.
Mr Khan later told reporters when he demanded written orders, the policemen said they were acting on verbal orders of the seniors. As he insisted on talking to "the seniors," he was not given their phone numbers, he said.
"The policemen also searched boot of my car for any banners or party flags meant for greeting Mr Sharif," he said, adding they also exchanged hot words with him when he insisted to enter the city.
After around 20 minutes, the inspector contacted someone on his wireless set before letting him go across the bridge to enter Lahore. Mr Khan rushed to the Punjab Assembly secretariat and submitted a privilege motion against the police for misbehaving with him and obstructing his entry for 20 minutes.
