KARACHI, May 6: Charges could not be framed against MQM Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed in a murder case of one Shahzad Alam before additional district and sessions judge, East Abdul Malik.

The accused was not produced before the court on Thursday and instead, special public prosecutor submitted a notification issued by the home department, Sindh, according to which the trial of Afaq Ahmed in six cases will be held inside Judicial Complex, Juvenile Prison Karachi for security reasons.

According to prosecution, Shahzad Alam was killed in 1995 in a firing incident between two groups of the MQM. Meanwhile, judge anti-terrorism court-II on Thursday issued notice to the prosecution for May 11 in a contempt of court application filed by Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, advocate, counsel for Aamir Khan, secretary-general of MQM Haqiqi.

The counsel submitted that B-Class was not provided to the accused by jail authorities despite orders of the court. The family of the accused was also not allowed to meet him and the accused was kept in solitary confinement, the counsel submitted. -APP
