HYDERABAD, May 6: The Taluka city council on Wednesday demanded that a ban should be imposed on entry of heavy vehicles in the city limits during morning hours. Qamaruddin Sheikh tabled an out of agenda resolution which was unanimously adopted by the council.

He said that heavy vehicles caused traffic hazards and restricted movement of the people. He suggested that trucks should be allowed to enter in the city limits between 9pm and 6am.

Qari Niaz also tabled a resolution, condemning amendments in curriculum. He said that textbooks were not available in the market although the academic year had already began. He also called for a ban on manufacturing and sale of fire crackers.

He referred to an incident in which a young boy was killed in Latifabad. Waheed Qureshi said that offices of Ilyasabad and Paretabad subdivisions of Hesco had been shifted to some other areas, causing problems to consumers.

He said that offices should be shifted to their own buildings. The resolution of Mr Qureshi regarding the supply of contaminated water to Paretabad was also adopted.

He said that officials of the Hyderabad Development Authority and Water and Sanitation Agency were required to appear in the council but they did not turn up despite notices.

He demanded that ponds from where Paretabad was supplied water should be desilted. He said that these ponds had not been cleared of silt for the last several years.

Presiding Officer Rana Siddiqui urged Taluka officers to look into the matter of contractors of the Taluka municipal administration who owed around Rs2.3 million. Yaqoob Sheikh rose on a point of order to draw the attention of the chair regarding the issue and said that contractors would disappear if no attention was paid.
