HYDERABAD, April 25: Residents of Pinjra Pole here on Friday night blocked the traffic at a roundabout in the area by burning tyres there to protest against the City taluka nazim for suspending work on a water supply pipeline.

Police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to end the road blockade. The Pinjra pole area falls in the union council-13 whose nazim Majeed Qureshi told this correspondent by telephone that due to non-availability of water in Effendi Town for the last one month, he had requested the district nazim and Hyderabad Development Authority director-general to look into the matter.

Thereafter, he said, a survey was conducted by the Water and Sanitation Agency officials to check where the problems lied in water supply system of the area. He said that on Friday, the labourers of Wasa were cutting the main road to check water supply line when Taluka Nazim Moinuddin Sheikh arrived there and forcibly took the labourers away with their shovels.

The taluka nazim said that the Wasa managing director or the UC nazim had not obtained permission from him for cutting the road. The Wasa MD said that he had obtained permission from the UC nazim.
