Notices in Mir Murtaza case issued

KARACHI, April 19: Justice Zawwar Hussain Jaffery of the Sindh High Court on Monday issued notice to Noor Mohammad, complainant in the murder case of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and seven other workers and supporters of PPP (Shaheed Bhutto group).

The bench was hearing an application filed by Asif Ali Zardari, main accused in the murder case seeking quashment of proceedings against him. Barrister Azizullah K. Shaikh appeared for the applicant and submitted that since 1997, the applicant is facing trial and case trial is still in initial stage.

The bench after hearing the counsel for applicant at length issued notice to complainant for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court. Asif Zardari, former DIG Karachi Dr Shoaib Suddle, former DG, IB Masood Sharif, former SSP Wajid Ali Durrani and 15 other police officials are facing trial in the case in which Mir Murtaza and his seven men were killed in an alleged shootout with Karachi police on Sept 20, 1996. -APP
