HYDERABAD, April 19: The Indus Resource Centre organized a function in connection with the global action week for "quality education for all children" in the press club on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, IRC's Sadiqa Salahuddin, Indus Consortium's Sindh coordinator Kamleshwar Lohano, HANDS's Hafeez Samoo and eminent academician Manoj Kumar expressed a concern over the deteriorating education standard in Sindh.

They said that 64 per cent girl children had not seen the face of schools. They said that the quality of primary education in Sindh was far better 20 years back. They said that the main cause of the deteriorating standard of education was that inefficient teachers had been appointed by the successive governments.

They said the school buildings were used by feudal lords as Otaqs and godowns. They said there was no sincerity of purpose and the quality of education deteriorated with each passing day. They stressed the need for self accountability.

They said awakening must be created among the masses about the importance of education and the civil society as well as the government must take concerted efforts for the promotion of quality education. They also gave the details of the education week programmes.

Meanwhile, the education department also held various programmes in the educational institutions of the district in connection with the Global campaign for education. EDO education Abdul Majeed Hur and others officers visited many schools and spoke on the importance of education.
