ISLAMABAD, April 18: The National Database and Registration Authority has produced 36.3 million computerized identity cards for Pakistani citizens and is planning to establish Swift Centres in Pakistani missions abroad to facilitate expatriates in getting registered.

Officials said Sunday a proposal is under consideration, which would be undertaken after Foreign Ministry's approval to assist and facilitate the Pakistanis living abroad to get registered with Nadra.

Initially, these centres are being planned in Saudi Arabia, UK and UAE, which have large Pakistani expatriate communities. Sources told APP that a delegation would be visiting Saudi Arabia, UK and UAE shortly to chalk out the modalities with the respective ambassadors for the establishment of NSRCs at these places.

The Authority had received approximately 36.5 million applications for the computerized national identity cards (CNIC) by the first week of April. The remaining two million are under different production channels.

A total of 171 Swift Registration Centres are working throughout the country, while another 37 will be operational in near future. Nadra has so far issued 6,63,259 National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis and 27,632 Pakistan Origin Cards to Pakistani nationals living in foreign countries. -APP
