HYDERABAD, April 15: Sindh Public Service Commission chairman Mohammad Hassan Bhutto has said that one can never forget discoveries made by Muslim scientists and scholars like Al- Khawarzmi who is rated among top 10 mathematicians that the world has ever produced.

He was speaking on Thursday at the "First Al-Khawarzimi Hardware and Software Competition" and the launching ceremony of a book titled "Digital Electronics and Microprocessor Technology" edited by Dr B. S. Chaudhry and Dr A. K. Baloch.

The event was organized by the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro. Professor Chaudhry said that Al-Khawarzimi was the greatest mathematician of his time and gave analytical and geometric solutions to quadratic equations.

He recalled that Al-Khawarzimi was also the first to produce global maps, a mammoth work involving a team of seven geographers. On this occasion, Aslam Pirzada delivered a brain storming lecture on "64-bit Revolution in Microprocessor Technology" which showed how the tiny microchip had revolutionized information technology.

MUET vice-chancellor Dr A. Q. K. Rajput and Professor (Dr) M. Rafiq Abro also spoke on the occasion. The ceremony was largely attended by faculty members and students.
