Botham slams Imran Khan

Published October 27, 2001

LONDON, Oct 26: Former England allrounder Ian Botham has launched a scathing attack on former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, disgraced South African captain Hansie Cronje and compatriot Geoff Boycott in his new book ‘Botham’s Century’.

Botham accuses Imran of ball tampering and cheating.

Botham says: “Imran has admitted publicly that during his career he tampered with the condition of a cricket ball to help him create movement.

“Not to put too fine a point on it, it is cheating.”

Of Boycott’s involvement in the Imran’s case, Botham says: “The way Boycs trampled all over the case made me distonctly queasy and I have to say that our relationship suffered as a consequence.”

Botham describes the Cronje as “two faced, two bob cheat”.

“It still sickens me when I think of the way I applauded his decision to forfeit an innings at The Centurions’ Test against England.

“Later, I was to discover he had been following a more devious agenda which was nothing to do with sportsmanship and everything to do with lining his own pockets.

“I felt duped, conned and cheated when the truth came out,” writes Botham.
