TOBA TEK SINGH, April 14: An additional district and sessions judge, Muhammad Amjad Pervez, on Wednesday handed down death sentence on five counts each to two sisters of Pirmahal town, who shot dead five members of a family.
Convicts Abida Bibi and Kausar Perveen, who will have to pay Rs250,000 each fine as well, were brought to court from the Jhang district jail for the hearing of the case. According to the prosecution, Abida Bibi had contracted love marriage with Shaukat Ali Gadhi, a government servant, after which her sister Kausar Perveen started living with her.
Shaukat's parents opposed to Kausar Perveen's stay with her sister and tortured both the sisters on their resistance. Both the sisters planned and intoxicated Shaukat, his father Waryam Khan Gadhi, mother Allah Wasai, sister Safia Bibi and brother-in-law Zafar Ali at midnight and shot them.
During the trial, the convicts complained to the judge that they were taken to Pirmahal rural health centre where male medical officer, Dr Muhammad Javed, medically examined them. The court directed the medical officer to appear before him on April 24 to reply to the charge.
