WWF drive on environment

KARACHI, April 9: The Sui Southern Gas Company is providing support to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) campaign for environmental awareness among schoolchildren under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The WWF has launched a two-month programme to promote environmental awareness in schoolchildren with the financial cooperation of Sui Southern Gas Company. About 600 students of lower secondary schools of City District Government Karachi will visit the WWF Wetland Centre at Sandspit on the Karachi beach and learn about the significance of mangrove forests and marine life.

The programme commenced at the WWF Wetland Centre on Wednesday and will continue for two months. Speaking on the occasion, Inayatullah Ismail, Manager (external relations) SSGC, highlighted the activities being carried out by Sui Southern Gas Company for the protection of valuable mangrove forests along the coastal areas of Karachi, such as joint beach cleaning activity by SSGC and WWF with the help of schoolchildren.

WWF's conservation executive Jehangir Durrani informed the students about the importance of mangrove forest for Karachi. Shamir Ali and Babar Hussain of WWF, Nuzhat Siddiqui, Organiser, Environmental Education Unit (CDGK) and Talat Nafees, Chairperson, Education Committee, Liaquatabad Town, also addressed the gathering. -PPI
