LARKANA, April 7: Larkana has been declared a model district for its development work and coordination among elected representatives and the DCO by a Sindh Local Government Commission team.

The team, which recently toured Larkana and conducted inspections through field surveys and questionnaires, has declared that the pace of development work in Larkana has left districts in Sindh behind.

This was stated here on Wednesday in a briefing jointly given by DCO Dr Badruddin Ujjan and others. The DCO said that the district government had undertaken around 852 schemes in road, education, health, agriculture, public health and others sectors after approval from the district development working party and with the allocation of Rs1071.5 million.

He was optimistic that almost all the schemes would be completed by August 2,004. Development works in remote areas had been undertaken under the Drought Emergency Relief Assistance programme, said district officer, planning and development, Ghulam Mustafa Soomro.

He said that a bridge over Hammal Lake was about to be completed and it would connect Larkana with the Kachho area. The meeting was told that Larkana had so far made 92.82 per cent of revenue recovery by collecting Rs41,138,951 and the remaining Rs3,182,002 would be recovered within due course of time.

On the occasion, the DCO awarded a commendatory certificate to Warah Mukhtiarkar Abdul Hameed Jagirani for achieving revenue recovery target in time.
