KARACHI, April 6: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar has called upon the administration, police and law enforcing agencies to take all essential measures for maintenance of law and order in the province, particularly in Karachi.

He said that the comprehensive strategy should be followed along with all protective and careful steps so that left over criminals in the province could be completely weeded out. Ali Mahar was presiding over a high-level meeting at Chief Minister's House, which was held to review the obtaining law and order in the province.

The chief minister said that Sindh was a peaceful province of the country where some mischievous elements keep committing one or the other terrorist act to disrupt the conditions. He emphasized that law enforcing organizations would have to gear up their efforts to make security arrangements more efficient.

He directed that patrolling by police, Rangers and other law enforcing agencies should be beefed up. The officials concerned should personally visit different areas, police stations and vital locations and ensure further improvement in the performance of their jawans.

Ali Mahar instructed that strict vigil be maintained at all government organizations, important installations, buildings and offices. He said that the officials concerned must ensure the arrest of culprits involved in recent terrorist acts.

He said that attack on a police station was regrettable and steps be taken to check recurrence of such acts. The chief minister directed the IGP to submit him a report regarding police requirements for further improvement in their performance. He assured that facilities for police would be increased for improvement in their performance.

He said intelligence network should be made more effective and long and short term strategies should be evolved for improving the police working. He gave go ahead signal for upgradation of five police stations every year on modern lines. He said that intelligence system should be ameliorated to improve the working of police stations.

He also approved placement of a coordinated system to keep police stations informed about all activities, installation of cameras in and outside police stations.

On the occasion, he issued directive for handing over cheques of Rs300,000 each to the heirs of deceased cops of Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station within three days.

He said that a revolving fund of Rs10 million should be created so that heirs of deceased cops in such cases could be issued cheques of compensation and financial assistance forthwith.

Earlier, Adviser Home, Chief Secretary, IGP and Additional Chief Secretary Home briefed the meeting in detail about the law and order conditions in the province and informed the chief minister about the problems and requirements of police force. Among others, the meeting was also attended by Deputy DG Rangers, CCPO Karachi, Brig Ajmal of Corps Headquarters and other officials. -APP
