SUKKUR, March 21: Hundreds of people staged a sit-in on the National Highway near Mureed Shakh on Saturday following the murder of a woman and her daughter in a Ghotki village.

Some eight armed men entered the house of Hashim Mirani in Niaz Mirani village to commit a robbery. When the inmates offered resistance, they opened indiscriminate firing, killing Mehran, 45, and her two-year-old daughter Sakina on the spot.

At least five family members were injured in the firing. They were identified as Hashim Mirani, Qasim, Ameer Bux, Sughar and Abdul Karim and shifted to the Rahim Yar Khan hospital.

The protesters put the bodies on the National highway for six hours.They told newsmen that they had a dispute with Ghulam Rasool Pathan over a piece of land who had threatened them to vacate the same. The protesters dispersed after they were assured by the TPO Ubauro that killers would be arrested.

The police arrested two accused including Noor Khan while others managed to flee. The relatives of the arrested men also staged a sit-in on the National Highway. They denied their involvement in the incident.
