KARACHI, March 10: Speaking in Moosa Colony on Wednesday, the adviser to the chief minister on health urged the parents to get their children vaccinated against polio.

Noman Saigal expressed the hope that polio would be banished from Sindh by the end of this year. He said this during his visit to the colony in connection with the ongoing drive against polio.

The adviser also inspected the arrangements made by the health department to cooperate with the vaccinators and the support staff. He was of the opinion that as a result of the people's cooperation, the province had fared better than the other ones in the campaign against polio.

Mr Saigal on Tuesday inaugurated the building of the cold storage which has been built at a cost of Rs1.4 million by the health department in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank.

An official statement said Health Secretary Ashiq Hussain Memon, Additional Secretary for Development Iqbal Dewan, Director of the Women Health Project Dr Naheed Jamali, and the chief of the I.I. Depot, Dr Suresh Kumar, were also present.

On the occasion, Mr Saigal said that with the completion of the cold storage the preservation period of medicines would be enhanced considerably. The health department was committed to providing the needed health facilities to the people and the project was a way forward towards this goal.

He called upon the officials of the department to refrain from indulging in undesirable activities which might bring disrepute to their department. All those found involved in violating this order would be subjected to punitive measures.
