PESHAWAR, March 10: The additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MPA Akhter Nawaz Khan. The MPA faces charges in a drug trafficking case.

Mr Khan, belonging to Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, has not been appearing before the court despite repeated notices. Judge Shehbar Khan directed the police to produce the accused on March 18, the next date of hearing.

The warrants could now only be cancelled with the appearance of the MPA before the court. Mr Nawaz Khan is on bail granted to him following his arrest in 1999. He won the October 2002 election from Haripur.

The court had issued various summons, but he did not turn up. Mr Nawaz Khan was charged along with two policemen in an FIR registered at the East Cantonment police station on June 21, 1999.
