HYDERABAD, March 10: Boycott of annual examinations of class IX and X by the Government Secondary Teachers Association continued for the second consecutive day on Wednesday throughout interior Sindh.
Civil administrations conducted the examinations in their respective districts with primary teachers and non-teaching staff on duty. The teachers, protesting against policies of the Sindh education minister, observed token hunger strikes and took out processions in different districts.
Officials confirmed that at some examination centres teachers tried to create trouble by locking doors of schools. Police resorted to aerial firing in Naushahro Feroze when some teachers tried to scale over a wall of a school.
The GSTA alleged that the police baton-charged teachers of the Himayat Girls' High School, Hala. In Hyderabad, the DCO, EDO, chairman, BISE, and members of vigilance committees visited a number of schools in City, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas and supervised the examination process.
GSTA president Abdul Ghani Kumbhar vowed that teachers would continue their struggle after the examinations and condemned arrests and baton-charge of teachers in Naushahro Feroze, Badin, Ghotki, Thatta and Panu Aqil.
The teachers staged a protest rally outside the press club. The leaders slammed the education minister for abolishing employment quota of their children and alleged that jobs had been distributed among blue-eyed people of the authorities.
They observed that in the federal government department, employees' children quota in jobs was still being maintained. Teachers observed a token hunger strike outside the press club, demanding acceptance of their demands and criticizing the education minister for his policies.
SANGHAR: Secondary school teachers continued their boycott of the SSC examinations. Authorities of the education department got the examinations conducted through private school teachers and non-teaching staff.
The examinations started late than the scheduled time at some centres. The teachers also tried to disrupt the examination process at different examination centres. Teachers, under the banner of the Primary Teachers Association, observed a token hunger strike at the Bachoo Badshah Chowk.
NAWABSHAH: Boycott of the matriculation examinations by teachers continued here on Wednesday. The examinations were supervised by non-teaching staff. Members of the PTA observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
KHAIRPUR: Teachers of the Model School, Shah Abdul Latif University, and other private schools supervised the examinations at some centres in the district. Teachers belonging to the PTA observed a token hunger strike for the second day at the Chatti Chowk.
MIRPURKHAS: The GSTA and the PTA boycotted the class IX and X examinations in the district. Primary teachers observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Secondary teachers continued their boycott of the examinations and tried to create hurdles in the process at some centres, including those established at government high schools of Naushahro Feroze and Kalhora.
The examinations could not be conducted at the Kalhora Government High School centre. The police deputed at the Naushahro Feroze Government High School centre resorted to aerial firing when some teachers tried to scale over a wall of the school.
DADU: The teachers boycotted the SSC examinations and classes in the district, pressing for acceptance of their demands.
JACOBABAD: The GSTA announced to boycott the SSC examinations scheduled for March 12. Under the aegis of the PTA, teachers observed a token hunger strike, demanding restoration of employment quota for their children.
SHIKARPUR: The teachers continued their boycott of the examinations.
