TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 29: Jewellers observed protest strike on Sunday at Kamalia and Gojra against the kidnap-cum-murder of the son of a Gojra jewellers association office bearer, Rana Muhammad Iqbal.
At Kamalia, the procession started from Clock Tower Chowk and reached Kamalia-Chichawatni Road in Thana Chowk after marching through Iqbal Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar, suspending traffic for more than two hours.
Speaking to processionists, Kamalia jewellers association president and secretary-general Haji Tufail and Mahmood Ali condemned the Gojra police for its failure to recover the boy during 10 days after his kidnapping.
They warned that if the killers were not arrested within three days, the protest movement would be launched against the Gojra police throughout the province. At Gojra, the procession started from Sarafa Bazaar and after marching through various roads it ended outside the office of the Gojra DSP.
In their speeches, office bearers of the jewellers association held responsible the Gojra City Police SHO for the murder. They alleged that the SHO registered the case when a delegation met DPO Saad Akhtar Bharwana two days before the recovery of the body of the boy.
Meanwhile, hundreds of citizens, officers and political leaders attended the qul ceremony of deceased Zain, the jeweller's son, in Tariqabad locality in Gojra on Sunday.
