FC deployed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Feb 27: The Frontier Corps (FC) has been deployed in the city to assist law enforcement agencies in providing protection to Muharram processions, official sources said here on Friday.

According to the plan, half of the 600 FC personnel would be deployed, along with police and Frontier Constabulary officials, in the sensitive localities of Peshawar, while the rest would remain as back-up force to handle any emergency, said chief of Capital City Police Tanvirul Haq Sipra.

The situation in the city is calm, and the FC deployment to assist the law enforcement agencies is a routine matter during the Muharram, he added.

HEROIN SEIZED: The customs officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of fine quality heroin from tribal areas and arrested accused at Kund checkpoint inNowshera district on Friday.

The customs officials at Kund checkpoint during the routine checking found a fake number plate of an official vehicle from a car No IDM 303, sources said. On suspicion, the officials checked the vehicle thoroughly and recovered 20kgs of heroin concealed in secret cavities, they said.

The alleged smuggler, Mohammad Niaz, son of Mohammad Din, a resident of Attock was arrested. The officials said that the worth of heroin in the international market was millions of US dollars.
