ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: Eight villages in Tharparkar have been provided with electricity facility which will benefit over 10,000 people. The villages, electrified from MNA Gul-i-Farkhanda's development fund, included Amrio, Sagror, Dabro, Liari and Bakhoo.

Speaking at a function in Tharparkar to celebrate the villages' electrification for which the people had been waiting for a long time, Gul-i-Farkhanda said in view of backwardness of the area she had decided to allocate her entire quota of fund to this region.

She said the people would now have an access to information through TV and radio which would help create awareness among them about different issues. The MNA said the prime minister would be requested to announce special funds to promote education, especially among girls, in the area.

She said with the power supply, the area would open to development and the residents would get all facilities available to the people of other areas. Speaking on the occasion, former minister Javed Jabbar said the power supply would bring about a revolution in the area where more than 80 per cent people were living below the poverty line.

Mr Jabbar, who is the senior vice-president of the Millat Party, said the long-awaited facility would usher in a new era in the region and give a boost to the cottage industry, besides improving the education ratio. Thousands of people attended the ceremony. -APP
